·       Syphilis is a chronic systemic infection caused by Treponema pallidum, and is usually sexually transmitted. Most cases are acquired by sexual contact withinfectious lisions – i.e. the chance , mucous patch, skin rash or conylomate lata. It maybe transmitted through non-sexual modes also -  i.e. transfusion or infection in utero

·       Lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV) is a sexually transmitted infection caused by Chlaimydia trachomatis.

Clinical features

·       Hydatid disease is a tissue infection of humans caused by the larval stage of Echinococcus granulosus. Canines (especially dogs) are the definitive hosts for E. granulosus. Sheepand cattle are thecommon intermediate hosts. Hence , this form of disease has its highest incidence in countries where sheep and cattle – raising is carried out with the help of dogs. Male is infected accidentally.

·       Taenia solium , the pork tapeworm , inhabits the intetinal lumen of humans , its  only definite host. Pigs are the usual intermediate hosts. Male acquires the infection following the eating of undercooked pork containing cysticerci.

·      The term ‘food poisoning’ suggests a food borne disease outbreak where a cluster of two or more individuals develop similar symptoms following the ingestion of a common form of ‘ food poisoning’ is gastroenteritis following consumption of food containing preformed toxins or organisms which produce toxin in the gut. It is a likely diagnosis when two or more persons become similarly ill after eating same food or when the onset of gastroenteritis exhibits a strong temporal relationship to a particular meal.

·       Enteric fever include typhoid fever caused by S . typhi, and paratyphoid fever caused by S. paratyphi A and  B .

The aetiology of CHD is multifactorial. Apart from the obvious ones such as increasing age and male sex, studies have identified several important “risk” factors (i.e., factors that make the occurrence of the disease more probable).some of the risk factors are more modifiable, others immutable. Presence of any one of the risk factors places an individual in a high-risk category of developing CHD. The greater the number of risk factors present, the more likely one is to develop CHD. The principle risk factors are given below:
